Red huckleberries
Ripen in the forest sun
Joy of wild nature
Inspiration for the piece:
Red huckleberries are nearly impossible to grow commercially. The wild bushes only grow on fallen logs under the dense forest canopy, and the berries need to be eaten the same day. They are one of the true joys of wild nature that cannot be found anywhere else. I sought to capture this rare delight with matching gold leaves and red garnet stones that shine with the same sweet intensity in the afternoon sun.
Where it’s been:
Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest: The afternoon sun seeps onto the forest floor near my house, with a warm hue that makes the garnet and fire opal beads radiate dazzlingly. The wild huckleberries are nearly impossible to distinguish from the stones, except for the promise of a semisweet crunch of wild flavor that cannot be found anywhere else.
